Your donation can help children and adults with disabilities have the opportunity to lead rich and complete lives by supporting access to sports and recreational programs. Your contribution can be directed to support one or all of the following:

  • Providing scholarships to Vermont residents living with permanent disabilities  for programs offered at Stowe Mountain Resort Ski & Snowboard School's adaptive program. $1000 funds a scholarship for a full season of adaptive skiing or riding, including lift ticket, individual coaching, and equipment.

  • Providing grants to support advanced training to instructors working in the adaptive program, including participation in the National Adaptive Academy provided by Professional Ski Instructors of America.

  • Providing specialized adaptive equipment. A mono- or bi-ski can cost up to $4000. Access to equipment like this opens the door for people with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities to enjoy all that skiing has to offer.

Ella MacDonald and her coach prepare to take a run down Inspiration. Ella was diagnosed with autism when she was 3.

“When my cousin told me that the adaptive program at the mountain could teach autistic kids to ski, I couldn’t believe it.  Ella’s communication skills are so limited, how could this be done?   We were met by a very kind and patient instructor who instantly put my worries at ease.   Each week something new unfolded before my eyes.   Ella was gaining confidence, feeling her independence and was wearing the biggest smile I had ever seen.  Her instructor used everything from colored cards, to cow bells.  By the end of the season Ella was skiing with a harness and was starting to turn.  To see the sheer joy on Ella’s face was priceless.   Skiing gives Ella one more way to connect with the world and it gives us as her family the hope that one day we can all ski together. Without the financial help of Stowe Adaptive Sports, Ella wouldn't be able to participate." -- Laura MacDonald, Stowe, VT
